Hot Chocolate Dumplings

(Serves 6-8)

200g dark cooking chocolate
1 litre milk
300ml thickened cream
200g caster sugar
100g powdered drinking chocolate
4 eggs
4 tbsp treacle
250g self raising flour
1 tsp baking powder


Melt the chocolate over a double boiler.
Whisk together the milk, cream, sugar and drinking chocolate in a large pan and bring to a gentle simmer. (Do not allow to boil.)

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and treacle. Slowly whisk in the flour and baking powder, then combine with the melted dark chocolate.

Into the lightly simmering milk, place spoonfuls of the chocolate mixture. (These will expand and fill the pan.)

Continue to simmer for 15-20 minutes with a lid on and then serve with the milky chocolate syrup.
